The Kappa Youth & Community Foundation and the Gaithersburg-Rockville (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi invites you to our 2018 Foundation Scholarship Dinner, May 20, 2018. The dinner is our way to celebrate the academic success and achievement of local high school seniors. Each student will be awarded a monetary scholarship to a university or college of their choice.
The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 5 p.m. followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. at the Manor Country Club, 14901 Carrolton Road, in Rockville, Maryland.
This year’s keynote speaker, Benjamin Jealous, former National President of the NAACP and current Maryland gubernatorial candidate, will speak to our scholars about sharpening their mind to gain a competitive edge for tomorrow.
Help us make this dinner and our efforts to send as many students as possible to college with your donation and attendance at the 2018 G-Rock Scholarship Dinner. Donations for this event is $75.

Black men get sick and pass away from chronic illness more than any other group of men or women in the United States. Crystal DeVance Wilson is conducting a research study to learn more about Black men with chronic illness and their prescription medication taking behaviors.
The Gaithersburg-Rockville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Committee is pleased to invite you to attend the first of what we hope will be a series of “Kappas at the Perch” Happy Hour fundraising events. This initial event will take place on Monday, August 21st, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at City Perch Kitchen & Bar at The Pike & Rose in North Bethesda, MD.The cost of the event is $25 per person. You will receive two complimentary drinks, hors d’oeuvres, parking, and a raffle ticket for a chance to win movie tickets and a restaurant gift certificate. Please plan to arrive as close to 5pm as possible as you will be responsible for your own tab after 7pm. Food will be provided based on 40 guests.Please note that only 40 tickets are available to this event. They will sell out quickly so please do not delay. Based on the limited amount, we are restricting the number of tickets per Brother at two. Please note that tickets are only available online at the Chapter’s website. Brother Henry Hailstock, Chair of the Scholarship Committee, announced that the committee awarded scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year to three high school seniors in our community. The Kappa Youth & Community Foundation presented checks to each young man a check in the amount of $4,000.
The scholarships were presented to the winners May 7, 2017, at the Manor Country Club, in Rockville, MD. In attendance were the Brothers of G-Rock, keynote speaker, the Homorable Kurt L. Schmoke, local dignitaries — Montgomery County Executive, Ike Leggett; Maryland State Delegate, Pamela E. Queen; Maryland State Senator Nancy King; a representative from United States Senator Chris Van Hollen’s office; Vice- President – District One of the Montgomery County Board of Education, Dr. Judy Docca; Alpha Kappa Alpha, Xi Sigma Omega Chapter’s President Stacey Mangham; Frederick and Woodbridge Alumni Chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; and a host of family and friends of the recipients and G-Rock chapter.
The academic and extracurricular accomplishments these young men have demonstrated are absolutely remarkable. They exemplify the qualities the Kappa Youth and Community Foundation values: persistence, determination, a love of learning, and a desire to help others.
G-Rock congratulates Gaithersburg High School senior Michael G. Pierre and Montgomery Blair High School seniors Amanuel Ayano and Wellington Uzamere, Jr. as the 2017-2018 Kappa Youth & Community Foundation’a Scholarship winners.
