COVID-19 and Public Health & Safety Guidance

COVID-19

With recent headlines and news on the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we realize that many of you have concerns and some of you have reached out regarding the status and safety protocols for upcoming
events. Rest assured that the leadership of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. and the Gaithersburg-Rockville (MD) Alumni Chapter are closely monitoring the guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local health authorities. At this time, none of the government agencies has recommended event cancellations in our province. We will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and update information as appropriate.

All G-Rock chapter members are strongly encouraged to observe the following guidance from the CDC and local health authorities to minimize the risk of transmission at our events and activities. Please use your own discretion when attending any Kappa event or any other public event. Furthermore, the best ways to prevent illness and help reduce the spread of respiratory diseases, includes:

  • Staying home when you are sick
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  •  Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.NOTE: G-Rock Alumni Chapter has elected to not host any events until the state of Maryland and the CDC has cleared our city asnd or state to proceed with the new norm. Until then,  members are encouraged to have “standard prevention kits” on hand at events/activities, to include, if possible:
  • hand sanitizer
  • disinfecting wipes
  • tissues
  • gloves
