Second Annual Men’s Health Symposium
Raise awareness of critical health concerns affecting men as well as highlighting actions participants can take to enhance their state of physical and mental health, resulting in better health outcomes.
According to data (2013-2016) from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 36.6% of men aged 20 and over are obese. Additionally, 31% of men aged 20 and over are living with hypertension. One of the leading causes of death among men is heart disease. In addition to these statistics, there continue to be health disparities in the country, thus exacerbating these health concerns among men of color. The recent impacts of COVID-19 have also created additional concerns about men’s health.
This event will target men in the Gaithersburg-Rockville area. There will be a number of sessions covering topics such as cardiovascular disease and prevention, nutrition, fitness, mental health, health insurance, and other topics Event partners include the Montgomery County African American Health Program, the Maryland Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Holy Cross Hospital, and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.
